
Project
On July 16, 2023, as part of the second stage of the project "Youth for Refugees’ and IDPs’ Empowerment”, a summary conference was held at Tbilisi Humanitarian University.
The conference was attended by the authors of selected papers from the analytical articles contest implemented within the framework of the project, as well as members of organizations working on refugee and IDP issues.The invited jury, the former Parliamentary Secretary of the President of Georgia, Attorney Irakli Gorduladze evaluated the policy papers of students of Tbilisi State University and Tbilisi Free University, Tamriko Natchkebia, Tamar Tkeshelashvili, Nino Tchedia, Vika Sologashvili, Tamar Mazanashvili and Demetre Diasamidze.
During the conference, the students discussed various topics, including the Protection of the Right to a Fair Trial in Cases of Determining the Status of Asylum Seekers in Georgia: Analysis of Existing Practice and Recommendations; Realization of the Right to Education for Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees (Challenges and Recommendations); Muslim Meskhetians: Challenges Related to the Integration and Repatriation of People Left Without a Homeland; The Promotion of Refugee Integration into Georgian Society; Challenges Faced by Internally Displaced Persons as a Result of Conflicts in the Territory of Georgia in Terms of Housing and Violence against Women as Gender-Based Persecution in International Refugee Law.
Additionally, reports were presented by Olha Zhakunets, Program Assistant on Support to Ukrainian Refugees in Georgia to Address Their Humanitarian Needs at CARE Caucasus and the representative of the first refugee-led organization in Georgia, Ahmed Aqil.
At the conclusion of the conference, the winners of the analytical articles contest, Tamar Mazanashvili and Nino Tchedia were awarded by the jury. The author and organizer of the project, Giorgi Chachkhiani also presented certificates to the participants of the training course and conference.
The project "Youth for Refugees’ and Internally Displaced Persons’ Empowerment" was implemented within the framework of the small grants of "Initiative for Youth-Led Civic Dialogue and Action" project of Caucasian House and the international non-governmental organization "International Alert", with the financial support of USAID.
