Tbilisi Humanitarian University Takes First Steps Toward Cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)

In line with the university's mission, the heads of THU's Research and Development Center and International Relations Office met with a representative of the DAAD Regional Office in Tbilisi

On 22 September 2026, Dr. Irma Mesiridze, Head of the Research and Development Center at Tbilisi Humanitarian University, and Prof. Nona Gelitashvili, Head of the International Relations Office, met with Dr. Nino Antadze, Deputy Head of the Tbilisi Regional Office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

For many years, Dr. Antadze has advised Georgian students, researchers, and academic staff on studying in Germany and obtaining scholarship funding.

During the meeting, the parties discussed DAAD programs that open up new opportunities for the students and academic staff of Tbilisi Humanitarian University:

• Ostpartnerschaften – The program supports the development of educational and research cooperation between Germany and partner countries. It funds student mobility to partner universities in Germany for study, research, and internships.
• Leonhard Euler Program – The program is designed for master's students and doctoral candidates in all disciplines, including those from Georgia. It funds combined study and research stays at both the home university and a partner university in Germany for the preparation of master's and doctoral theses.

The meeting outlined the next steps of cooperation at two levels.

At the individual level, THU students, doctoral candidates, alumni, and academic staff will be informed about DAAD scholarship programs, including university summer language courses, master's scholarships, and research grants. To this end, an online information session will be held on 1 October.

At the institutional level, in accordance with its mission and action plan, the university will take DAAD programs into account in planning its international cooperation, including the establishment of partnerships with German universities.
